hello! it's that time of year again! this time around i've got brown candy to give out, so hmu! ♥ if anybody wants to, feel free to leave me spoopy recs! it can be animanga, films, games, creepypastas, art, anything at all, as long as it falls under unsettling and horrific >:3
I've only watched Let's Plays of these games, but DreadOut and Home Sweet Home looked pretty good if you're interested in media featuring monsters from non-western and non-Japanese eastern cultures. DreadOut is Indonesian horror and I think Home Sweet Home might be too.
Hmm, Riverdale on Netflix isn't tooooo spooky but it is a little unsettling. For games, I'd say to try Dead by Daylight, and the anime I'm watching right now, Parasyte, is both creepy and cool as heck.
I'm not super into spoopy games/media since I'm a wimp, unfortunately :( But there's some good minimalistic RPG Maker horror that I like; The Witch's House has stuck with me for a long time.
UH IDK what to reccomend! For games, Id always end up reccomending your basic shit: Silent Hill, Biohazard. ect. However, I really liked Rule of Rose, Galerians, and Dreadout. There others but man idk im so bad at reccomendations.
For movies, probably (ones I liked):
The Thing (the first one is good, the prequel IMO is good, its biggest flaw is the use of CGI over Practical.)
The Crazies (Both 1973 and 2010 are good films in there own, having different takes and endings, as well as how people infected act.)
The Cabin in the Woods is good, Probably have seen it by now though. But i love comedy and Lovecraftian level of horror.
House of Wax (2005) gets more shit then it deserves. Its not THAT bad of a film, honestly, and I love a lot of the gore and just the universe it is in kind of ><.
Evil Dead (trillogy + REmake + Series) The whole worse of Evil Dead is just so fun! The first film didnt have as much comedy as the later films, however, Both with and without the comedy it is just such a fun and well done series. The TV show is pretty hilarious as well!
Jacobs Ladder is another decent film. I know people bring it up cause of Silent Hill alot (for good reasons) but the film in itself is a really good psychological ride. You start to question different thigns, wonder what they mean, and even rewatching it you pick up on somethings you dont notice at first, or you figure out what the true meaning to events really mean.
Dead Alive / Brain Dead is another comedy horror. its more comedy then horror. But still, has some good practical effects and scenes, and thats one of my favorite thigns about horror films!
The Orphanage is kind of akin to Rule of Rose, but not at the same time. A spanish film (people have told me it is in english dub as well, but I never seen a copy before). Has some nice jump scenes.
>< Those are my recommendations I guess.
Last Rec: This is for books. There are a LOOOOOT of lovecraftian type books I could recommend for you, but IDK who is into that type of stuff really. So I will recommend the NEXT best thing: FEAR STREET! The Fear Street books are quick reads (often I find 2 page chapters in them) and they appear in the Young Adult series, so you would think 'huh, must be like Goosebumps and pretty kiddish". Not at all, they are pretty good in terms of like 80s slasher film level of books. I often just have a fun time rereading them, sometimes they are silly, often times it serious. People do die in horrific ways in these books :O So its worth a read~!
in a way it makes me glad that i've already experienced the majority of your recs bc... ayyyyyy let's be better friends lmao. similar horror taste is a great basis for friendship methinks >:3
fun anecdote: my dad watched jacob's ladder once when he was hella drunk, and told my mom about it as if HE had actually experienced the things the mc did, and it terrified the shit out of my mom for years
i haven't seen a lot of ppl talk about the orphanage so i'm pleased to see it mentioned! i didn't know there was an english dub of it :O out of interest i might wanna see if i can snag a copy of that somewhere :Ia
thanks a bunch for all of this so much time and thought was put into it ;w; THE PASSION PLEASES ME
Damn right it do :3c I always need more horror friends! I need horror friends in general. and omg dad no pls. And yeah, I heard it from (oddly enough) spanish speaking friends. But my copy only had spanish. Maybe cause it was a cheaper DVD...

and for creepy I'd recommend Creep on Netflix, if you have it! It's super uncomfortable and unsettling and I hate it but it's a good movie for it, LOL

Sadly I have not partaken of anything spooky recently so I have no recs to leave. :'(

I picked up a Lovecraft collection and it is full of cosmic horror-- however for a quick kinda-creepy-cool read, The Cats of Ulthar is interesting.

I enjoyed the punchline of A Dark Room and thought it cast a spooky light on everything you'd done before! (The game is a bit of a timesink, though.)

I see no one has recommended Doki Doki Literature Club yet, so here it is!
It's free, short, and pretty fun. Best played without spoilers. Here is a review to give you an idea:
You know those times games that are clearly for kids are tagged with things like violence and psychological horror? Just as a troll?
This is not one of those times.

One of the characters, Monika, even has a twitter here! I would, er, suggest not venturing there until after you've completed the game though.

I only know of some spooky RPG horror games. Ao Oni, Misao, Mad Father....I only watch people play them because I'm such a chicken >.
