HELLO FRIEND do you have a minute to talk about Lychee Light Club

At its heart, Lychee Light Club (and its just-as-good prequel, Our Light Club) is a story about adolescence and the fears it brings with it. Because it's scary, being a 14-year-old boy. Your life is changing, your body's changing, you're discovering girls or boys or your ambition to create an unsettlingly Nazi-esque club/cult, build an invincible fruit-powered robot, and brutally murder people.

Yeah.

I'm not going to say too much else about what happens, because I don't want to spoil the plot - although I do want to warn that there's a brief underage sex scene and an implied rape, in case those are reasons you'd want to stay away. If they aren't, then Lychee Light Club is definitely a manga worth checking out. I'd recommend the official translation, both because it's great and because the last time I tried to read this online the chapters were all in the wrong order, but however you do it, let me know what you think! I remember trying to read Battle Royale, if you're up for people dying and killing others in elaborate ways. If I recall correctly, though, it is pretty sexual in nature (for a series with high-schoolers offing each other), kind of...bloody/gory at times, and parts here and there with sexual assault...I don't think I ever finished reading it. It is interesting in a suspense way of what-will-happen next (THE WHOLE ESSENCE OF IT, I GUESS), if you can get through the other things!

Trick or treat! ♥

Oh man I don't read much horror, but if you haven't read them already, I liked Tonogai Yoshiki's Rabbit Doubt series (Doubt, Judge, Secret), although I've only read Doubt and Judge so far and that was several years ago P:
falondin: (umineko | virgilia)

i'm really terrible with horror so i don't watch/read it much, but if you've never seen/read umineko no naku koro ni i really recommend it! you can watch the visual novel on youtube (or play it yourself! there's actually supposed to be an official translation coming out soon). it's a murder mystery with time loops and has a really interesting theme of like... magic vs reality and it gets pretty meta. there's also a manga that's pretty faithful, i just prefer the vn bc of the voice acting.
kureto: (sʙ69 | ᴅᴇʏᴀɴ)

I'M TERRIBLE WITH CREEPY STUFF but if you don't mind korean horror, check out Distant Sky? it's a web series about a boy waking up in complete darkness. turns out the entire city of seoul kinda just fell into a hole and now there's crazy people everywhere, TIGERS ROAMING AROUND FREELY, more crazies, soldiers who kill civilians.. it's so weird and suspenseful and most of the time i had no idea what was going on. beware for gore-y images, suicide, and attempted rape though. the art isn't all that pretty but i guess that adds to the atmosphere since there's hardly any light (they mostly use flashlight apps on phones) and the characters just look so beaten up after a while as they attempt to find a way outside the hole.

OH I JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING JAPANESE I READ it's called School Ningyo and.. well, two girls try to hunt mermaids at their school in the middle of the night. it's been years since i read it but i thought it was pretty neat. :3c

I'M NOT VERY GOOD WITH CREEPY THINGS but I second c's recommendation of umineko... even though i've never played it, I enjoyed the characters and 'game mechanics'.

then I also liked the danganronpa series though it's more of a murder mystery than outright horror... yep..

i really am a weenie

Not animanga, but Saya no Uta is up there with the creepiest things I've ever played. (Warnings for violence and sexual content most definitely apply).

It took me a while to remember the title but Kakurenbo was pretty scary! It's fairly short too.

Hmm unsettling you say... This one is REAL dark. I mean people literally hate the living s**t out of this comic. Bradherley no Basha is like 8 pages long, and almost a torture and sad series. But that's the kind of crap I LIKE SO....... Not spooky, just depressing and unnerving ladjfadsf

Dont wanna make people hate me for bad recommendations. instead of Junji Itou do some Umezz Kazuo. (Unless you read all of his work too..)

Trick or treat!

I'm big into scary stuff and Ito is the king as far as I'm concerned. Other "disturbing" manga I'm fond of are Devilman (supernatural, violence, drama) and Berserk (fantasy, violence). I'm also a giant fan of every single anime Yoshiaki Kawajiri has been involved with - Demon City Shinjuku (my icon is from the movie!), Ninja Scroll, and Wicked City are all wonderfully dark and creepy!

Trick-or-Treat!

I've never been big into the horror/suspense genre so I don't think I've seen/read any manga or anime for them. The closest thing I can recommend is Ao no Exorcist which has supernatural elements to it though it's probably a bit lighter than what your going for.

Trick or treat!

Seconding Battle Royale, the manga is quite dark and gory. Shin Sekai Yori is also pretty good and has some horror elements to it. Another is Jisatsu Circle, a manga that was only one volume but it was pretty disturbing. Hmm, I really need to check out more horror series... Maybe I'll also look at others' recommendations haha.

trick or treat? ヽ(〃・ω・)ノ a horror manga i like is fuan no tane! it's a collection of short stories about unexplained and spooky things.
adurotum: (You just do it like this.)

I honestly don't really read much horror stuff, or if I do I stumble across it rather than looking for it. If Parasyte counts as a horror manga, I would recommend that one though!

trick or treat!

One of my favorites is Another! pretty Final Destination-ish, about a curse wiping out the protagonist's class and their attempts to stop it, it's rly good.
ivoryandhorn: A black and white photo of a woman against a black background, wearing a black feathery cape. Her pale face and hands stand out starkly against the black. (Default)

Trick or Treat!

I'm not a fan of horror so I can't really rec anything. :c oh though if you're into video games, 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors is really good, it's kind of like a murder mystery puzzle game and it's pretty suspenseful and kind of gross, haha.

I saw Kaede rec Battle Royale up there and I will just go GOD YES READ IT, it's a favorite of mine. (The novel, at least; I actually haven't seen the movie or read the manga to say.)

And while I'm not big on survival horror vidya, Eternal Darkness is just that good, even I love it.

Trick or treat!

Trick or treat!

And Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (the first 2 seasons, Ni and Kai. Rei was okay and Kira was horrible) is pretty much the only honest horror anime I've seen yet, and even though I'm usually not into horror stuff at all, I really liked it! Especially I like the suspense and mystery parts, and aside from one particular scene, the gore didn't bother me like it usually does.

In the game department, I like Corpse Party too (though I have to admit it's mostly because I love one of its characters too much), but I've not heard good things of it's anime or manga adaptations.

Trick or Treat~! ♥

I'd have to recommend Umineko and Another like others have mentioned before for horror. 'u' Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea is a bit creepy in later parts as well!
